+ Reverse Engineering 'Restyle'

Course Duration: 16 hours

Tuition: $1500 USD

Overview:
Learn to trasform physical products as digital scan data into digitally correct complex Pro/E surface geometry. In this class you will learn to manipulate point cloud imports scanned from clay or existing products using Restyle software from PTC. Participants will work with a choice of Pro/CONCEPT, Rhino, Geomagic, Restyle & Alias surface imports or of various point cloud data. Fast and powerful, Pro/ENGINEER Reverse Engineering software enables productive use of existing intellectual property.

Prerequisites: This workshop is only for those designers or engineers looking to utilize point cloud data for reverse engineering. Prior import experience with surfacing is necessary as this is an advanced class dealing with surface connections such as tangency and curvature. We suggest the design engine One weeklong product surfacing workshop as a prerequisite to this class. The next class after this Restyle class is the Advanced Import Class that utilizes import geometry for creating parametric Pro/ENGINEER geometry.

Topics:

  • Review basic import functions
  • Go over in great detail redefining functions for import geometry
    .
  • Curve Connections
  • Positional, Tangent and Curvature Continuous Curve connections are now supported within the Restyle feature
  • Connection constraints are displayed in the Pro/ENGINEER graphics area and are designated by a circle(positional), Single line(Tangent) and Double line(Curvature continuous).
  • learn to manipulate import points or surfaces
  • Learn workflow solutions and problem solving techniques with Restyle.

Discussions:

  • Discuss reverse engineering history and evolution.
  • Automatic surfacing in the Restyle functional area provides a simple, progressive means for creating surfaces.
  • This functionality is ideal when working with extremely complex, organic shapes.
  • Discuss Polygon imports and contrast from Geomagic
  • Overview of wildfire restyle.
  • Discuss strengths and weaknesses of wildfire restyle.
  • Discuss workflow techniques for rebuilding robust parametric models from import geometry.
  • Discuss alternate techniques to getting scan data for capturing form.
  • Discuss inspection techniques to compare one parametric model to existing scan data.
  • Discuss first article inspection techniques within Pro/ENGINEER
